Programs:

THE LAKESIDE PALMETUM OF OAKLAND

The Lakeside Park Palmetum was established by the International Palm Society's Northern California Chapter in the autumn of 1982 to test and demonstrate the viability of various Species of palms in our Bay Area climate. These cold-hardy palms are presented here in a landscaped setting with companion plantings of other cold-hardy tropical and subtropical test plants.

The word Palmetum may be compared with the word "arboretum" which refers to a collection of living trees for display thus "Palmetum" is a collection of living palms cultivated for scientific, educational, ornamental purposes and viewing enjoyment.
